King's Plate Stakes Picks
Woodbine, Race 9, King's Plate Stakes, Post Time-5:34 PM ET
Saturday features the biggest race of the year at Woodbine, The King's Plate, which is a 13-horse field for 3-year-old Canadian-bred horses. It is the Kentucky Derby of Canada and always a great race to watch and bet! NYRA Bets handicapper Matthew DeSantis gives you his insights into this race and some of the other graded stakes races taking place on the Saturday card at Woodbine.
This year's renewal features a strong, competitive group of runners. #12 Sedbury's Ghost (6/1) won the Plate Trial Stakes last month going 1 1/8 miles and the word outcome out of Woodbine is this one is only scratching the surface and should appreciate the extra distance. Meanwhile, trainer Mark Casse has a filly running in the form of #10 No Time (7/2) who is your morning line favorite and coming off a dominant win in the Woodbine Oaks. She also looks strong and has an effective running style tracking the pace. Fillies winning this race is now out of question as we have seen it in recent years. One of the X-factors in the race is #7 Runaway Again (12/1) who only has run once, but dazzled in debut going two turns at Woodbine and winning by over nine lengths. Distance won't be an issue for the son of Hard Spun, but experience might be a factor.
