Horse: #3 Fancy Is My Name (8/1 morning line) use as a win bet at 6/1 or higher.

Let’s head to Horseshoe Indy for a potential longshot who is trying the turf for the first time but should be able to have some success on the new surface. Fancy Is My Name is a daughter of Flatter for trainer Randy Klopp who has only run twice to this point in her career and is now switching to the grass after her first two attempts on dirt. She did not show much in debut going 5 ½ furlongs back in April, but she broke from the inside post and lacked early speed. Klopp gave her a little time off after that first start and she came back in mid-August but against drew the inside rail going six furlongs and again fell behind early but kept on more effectively. Based on watching both of those starts, I believe she will excel going longer where her lack of early speed won’t be so detrimental. Additionally, she finally gets off the rail and draws more toward the middle of the field, which could help her get away in better order. From a pedigree standpoint, she should like the grass as her dam, Onebadkitty, was a Cal-bred turf route stakes winner and has been a highly productive mare having foaled Shes’a Perfectlady who was a three-time turf sprint winner. Meanwhile, Fancy Is My Name is sired by Flatter who might not be known for producing turf winners but has decent numbers over the last few years as his progeny are winning at a 10% clip on the grass. It is promising to me that Klopp runs this one back quickly after that August 16 race showing the filly came out of the race in good order and has opted not to drop this one into the maiden claiming ranks. Jockey Luis Contreras is familiar with the horse as he rode her the first two starts and should be able to get her away mid-pack this time with a better chance for a late kick at the top of the stretch. Fancy Is My Name should benefit from stretching out, the surface switch, and being second back from a layoff.
