Longshot of the Day: Race 9 at Saratoga

Track: Saratoga Racecourse

Race 9: $100K MSW going 5 ½ furlongs for 2YO fillies

Post Time: 5:44 PM ET

Horse: #5 Quiet Street (8/1 morning line) use as a win bet at 5/1 or higher.

Bill Mott, Junior Alvarado, and Godolphin. That feels like a pretty good trio to put your faith in for a longshot, so let’s dive into Quiet Street who will be debuting for the Hall of Fame trainer in the finale at Saratoga on Wednesday. The race is also the final leg of a Pick 6 sequence that features a $158K carryover from Sunday, so you want to get in on that as well. As for Quiet Street, the daughter of Street Boss is out of Serene, who is one of the many Godolphin broodmares. While she never won on the turf, she did run well over the race despite two of her four tries coming over yielding conditions. This is the mares first foal, but I like the cross with Street Boss who is a 14% producer of debut winners at two and does well with turf sprinters. Mott might not be known for churning out turf sprinters at juveniles, but over the last five years his win percentage among debut turf sprinters at 2-years-old is the same as his overall win percentage (16%). Interestingly, when you see a Godolphin horse debut for Mott with Alvarado in the irons, it’s not as automatic as you might think with them only connecting at an 8% clip, but the interesting part is that when they win, they win at a good price. All their winners under those conditions the last five years have been 6/1 or higher come post time. I like the fact that Quiet Street has had a nice series of works coming into this race including a pair of five-furlong workouts. What strikes me about those is the improvement she showed from the first one on July 5 (1:03) to the second one on July 30 (1:01.4). Both workouts were from the gate and while she does not appear to have explosive gate speed, she does have a 48.4 second four-furlong bullet workout on July 21, which could speak to some explosiveness. In a wide-open maiden race, she is one I will be using in my tickets.
