Longshot of the Day: Race 5 at Horseshoe Indy
Track: Horseshoe Indianapolis
Race 5: $8K optional claimer going 1 mile on turf for 3+
Post Time: 4:14 PM ET
Horse: #1 Boitano (6/1 morning line) use as a win bet at 9/2 or higher.
A field of nine on the turf at Horseshoe Indianapolis provides some nice opportunity to find a price this afternoon, which is what I am hoping to do with Boitano. The six-year-old son of Nyquist has had a long career, which includes being Grade 3-placed way back in 2022 when he finished third in the British Columbia Derby (G3). However, since late 2023 he has been facing lower-level claiming or starter allowance competition with mixed success. While he raced on the turf early in his career in 2022, it was not until January 2025 that now trainer Jose Camejo put him back on the turf where he has shown solid ability at this level or higher. In five career starts on the grass, he has never finished worse than third with two victories. Additionally, his Beyer Speed Figures (BSF) have typically hovered in the mid-to-high 70s, which is more than enough to win on Tuesday against this field. Trainer Jose Camejo is red hot at Horseshoe Indianapolis, having won three of seven starts with only one horse missing the board. Jockey Mitchell Murrill will be able to save ground from the inside rail and should have the horse in a prime tracking spot behind #11 Del Rayo (5/1) who represents lone speed. From a form standpoint, Boitano won a $10K optional claimer at Fair Grounds back in March and while he did not distinguish himself in May over the turf course at Horseshoe Indianapolis as he finished third against slightly tougher foes, he was forced to run off the turf last time out. I expect an improved effort today for a horse that has always run well on the turf going out for a hot barn who should sit a perfect trip.
