Longshot of the Day: Race 7 at Horseshoe Indianapolis

Track: Horseshoe Indianapolis

Race 7: $5,000 claimer going 5 ½ furlongs for 3+ fillies and mares

Post Time: 5:16 PM ET

Horse: #6 Streaking (6/1 morning line) use as a win bet at 5/1 or higher.

When a horse has dirtied up form, it typically refers to a horse who has run on different surfaces and distances, which is certainly the case for Streaking. The horse has run on all three surfaces (dirt, turf, and synthetic) and has gone between five furlongs and a mile. However, when you isolate dirt sprint effort, which constitute four of her seven starts, you see a horse that has never missed the board and where she has collected her only win. Previous trainer John Ennis dropped her down to a maiden claiming $20K at Churchill Downs last November where she rolled to an easy victory and was claimed by current trainer Genaro Garcia who moved the horse onto the all-weather track at Turfway Park and ran her against $62K optional claimers, in which she was way over her head. Additionally, she had a terrible start that day and the race was over before just after it started. She’s clearly better on the lead and was stuck at the back of the field in that previous start in addition to never running well on turf or synthetic. Now she returns to dirt sprints and drops all the way down to a $5,000 claimer off a six-month layoff. Typically, I am wary of that type of move as Garcia will not make back the $20,000 it took to claim her even if she wins and gets claimed. However, he has given her four official workouts leading up to her return and she has been getting progressively faster in each. Additionally, she is only carrying 111 lbs. as apprentice jockey Felix Astudillo hops aboard, which I view as a positive. Apprentice jockeys tend to be more aggressive out of the gate and get a horse up front, which is where this horse does her best work. Finally, if you isolate those dirt sprints efforts, her Beyer Speed Figures (BSF) got faster each time as she has gone 36, 41, 46, and 48. Her maiden breaking effort of a 48 BSF might be good enough to win here, but even a modest step forward from that would land her in the winner’s circle. I always like when horses get back to what they do best and it is clear Streaking is a dirt sprinter, so I will be happy to take a bit of a price on her dirt sprinting.
