Longshot of the Day: Race 8 at Parx

Track: Parx Racecourse

Race 8: $50K MSW going 1 mile and 70 yards on the dirt for 3YOs

Post Time: 3:14 PM ET

Horse: #1 Late Nite Call (6/1 morning line). Use as a win bet at 5/1 or higher.

The eighth race of the day at Parx is an interesting one to use as a longshot play because the morning line is so flat with several horses hovering around 6/1. To some extent, this feels like a race where you want to wait to see how the board plays out leading up to the post time as the public could give some indication of which horse is live, or which horses might float up and present even better value. Ultimately, I am going with a filly facing the boys in Late Nite Call. Part of the reason is that morning line favorite, #6 Happily Delusional (5/2) is already developing quite the reputation as the money burner despite only four career starts. He has three runner-up finishes and lost the last two times out at even money and at 2/5 odd. Meanwhile, the daughter of Audible is facing the boys, which feels like an intention decision from trainer Niall Saville since there is a maiden special weight for three-year-old fillies the race right before this one at Parx for the same purse money, but that race is at 6 ½ furlongs while this one is covering two turns. Late Nite Call struggled at the start in both career efforts, which is a concern, but I like seeing jockey Tyler Connor aboard as he has the ability to really get horses to show good early speed and if he can get her to sit a mid-pack trip while saving ground, then he can either wait for something to open up on the rail or tip out at the top of the stretch. Her dam, Clockstrucktwelve, has produced winners from all her raced foals to this point other than Late Nite Call. The horse gets Lasix for the first time and is second time with blinkers, which can be a plus handicapping angle depending on the trainer or horse. I am willing to dry a line through the last effort since it was over a wet track, and I am willing to concede that she might not have liked the kickback. Today she faces a relatively short field and can rebound while saving ground over a fast track. Finally, a horse like #4 Anything But Mine (6/1) is also an intriguing play despite the fact trainer Louis Linder Jr. is 0-17 at Parx thus far in 2025. That horse is second back from a brief layoff and will be going two turns for the second time, so I expect a strong late effort and conditioning.
