A fun card at Remington Park this afternoon and evening as you see several good allowance races throughout. The finale features the opportunity to play against a last out maiden winner for Steve Asmussen, #10 Copper Storm (7/2). Listen, Asmussen is incredibly dangerous at Remington Park winning nearly 30% of his races and he has his #1 jockey, Stewart Elliot, up on the mount. However, I am always cautious about taking a last out maiden winners as Asmussen is only winning at a 15% clip at Remington Park over the last five years with last out maiden winners and with such a large field on Tuesday night there are plenty of challengers. Mumayaz was one that immediately stuck out to me for trainer Ron Moquett is coming in from some much more competitive circuits having last run at Horseshoe Indianapolis and Churchill Downs where he won a $50,000 claiming race with Tyler Gaffalione on the mount. He has never run at Remington before but has kept much strong company in the past having run against the likes of Skelly at Oaklawn Park. On Tuesday he will be tracking the early pace and his last few races put him in prime position to contest for victory. Moquett is 31% winning at Remington Park this meet and is 69% in the money. There is also the fact the horse is third back from an 11-month layoff, so you would expect this to be his best performance in the form cycle. The other 6/1 runner who will likely attract some interest is #11 Edified (6/1) for trainer Steve Asmussen with Isaac Castillo on board. The horse has run against graded stakes company and high-level allowance competition during his career, but never been able to compete against the likes of Speak Easy, Mariachi, Stretch Ride, and West Saratoga. However, this will be a sizeable class drop despite staying in an allowance field. Perhaps this will ultimately be the level where he is able to succeed, and he provides legitimate value as the “other” Asmussen in this race.
