We cashed yesterday on Cat Spring at Churchill Downs, though she got bet down to 5/2 odds after starting at 6/1 on the morning line. Today, I think Classy Beach could take a little money but should still present good value come post time. Let’s start with pedigree. I will make no bones about loving Omaha Beach as a sire. I think Spendthrift has a superstar on their hands as evidenced by the massive jump in his sire fee to $75,000 in 2026 whereas he had been standing for $35,000 prior to this coming year. What I love about Omaha Beach is that his runners can do a little bit of everything. While his first crop was nearly exclusively dirt runners with minimal turf/synthetic success, his numbers have improved dramatically on the grass and all-weather surfaces in his subsequent crops as he got more turf and synthetic mare. To quantify this in more detail, Omaha Beach did not produce his first all-weather surface winner until June 2024 as his offspring had been 0-38 prior to that first victory. Additionally, he was only producing 7% winners on turf/synthetic combined. However, since that date, he has produced 15% winners on those two surfaces, and his numbers have come aligned with the all-sire after in many of those categories. Why is this important? Classy Beach is out of the mare Ultimate Class was a turf sprint stakes winner and a seven-time winner on the grass, so there is plenty of turf pedigree underneath. While she is 0-8 producing first-out winners, her foals have won 20% (10-50) of the turf sprint races, so I love trainer Eddie Kenneally switching this one to the grass. She debuted against sales-restricted company at Keeneland last month on the dirt and showed outstanding speed sprinting seven furlongs. She encountered some issues while tiring late and finished well back, but I thought it was an encouraging effort. I always like seeing a debut runner with speed and jockey Ben Curtis hops aboard for the first time on Thursday. Now Classy Beach gets on a better surface for her and cuts back. Her speed and previous experience should be the ideal combination to get the job done at a price.
