It’s a big day at Horseshoe Indianapolis as the card features six stakes races spotlighting Indiana breds. Additionally, on NYRA Bets you can OPT IN and get a 10% BONUS on all win bets today at Horseshoe Indianapolis, so it’s a great way to play and add to your winnings.

Before the stakes action starts there is a maiden race on the turf where one runner jumped off the pace, which was El Jovero. What stands out about El Jovero’s past performance is that trainer Cipriano Contreras has been trying to get this son of Honor A.P. on the turf all summer. Amazingly, the horse has been in four consecutive turf races that have all been rained off the grass. When you look at his pedigree, you understand why they have wanted to switch surfaces as his dam, Aquitaine, was a grades stakes placed turf router with four career wins on the grass. She’s been a productive broodmare with six winners from seven raced foals as only El Jovero is still a maiden. On the track, the horse has shown some talent on the dirt finishing in the money in four of seven career starts but has never truly been close to winning. However, the horse has come back improved as a three-year-old and Contreras has had success recently getting his horse on the turf for the first time. Apprentice jockey Jose Ramos Gutierrez is taking over the mount, which allows El Jovero to only carry 115 pounds. Typically, I do not obsess too much about weight, but a maiden carrying at least seven less pounds than the competition going long on the turf is a significant advantage. Finally, the horse gives every indication there will be a perk up on the new surface as his running style more closely resembles a turf runner as he comes from the rear of the field and has shown the ability to pass horses on the dirt, which should only be heightened on the turf.
