Longshot of the Day: Race 8 at Aqueduct
Track: Aqueduct
Race 8: $82K allowance going 1 mile on dirt for 4+
Post Time: 4:07 PM ET
Horse: #1A Global Perspective (8/1 morning line). Use as a win bet at 9/2 or higher.
The eighth race on Saturday at Aqueduct is a doozy and I do not envy morning line maker David Aragona, who is the best in the business, at trying to make a line for this race. It will be interesting to see where the public money goes, but I’m intrigued by one half of a coupled entry in the form of Global Perspective. Typically, coupled entries are a bad bet. A coupled entries both trained by Chad Brown are an even worse but, this might be a rare exception to the rule. Both Global Perspective and his entry mate #1 Trade Imbalance (8/1) are intriguing as they represent horses with little experience and high upside if they can come back to the track effectively. Global Perspective debuted two years ago at Saratoga and finished third behind a pair of future Grade 1 winners Dornoch (Belmont Stakes and Haskell) and Seize the Grey (Preakness and Pennsylvania Derby). Not a bad debut effort. He came back to win next time out over a wet track before going to the bench for 15-months. He came back at this level and distance in November getting Lasix for the first time and did very little running. He was in touch with the leaders briefly before weakening late under the ride of jockey Flavien Prat. However, for his first race in 15 months, it was about what you expected. Since that November effort, Brown has had the son of Tapit put in seven official workouts and he should be in much better fitness for this second run. He showed good early speed in his maiden breaking victory, which seems to be the key to his success. He picks up jockey Eric Cancel, who has been riding much better of late, in large part because he is being more aggressive with his rides. Hopefully that trend continues. His entry mate, Trade Imbalance, is in a similar spot to Global Perspective last time out in that he is making his return to the track after a 17-month layoff. He won in debut at Saratoga in August 2023 defeating graded stakes winner Agate Road. In fact, every horse from that debut race has gone on to win. The son of Dialed In has recorded nine straight workouts and the fact Brown is not dropping either of these horses means he still has big plans for this. Trade Imbalance picks up Woodbine-based jockey Sofia Vives who has been a welcomed addition to the Aqueduct jockey colony this winter as she’s given good aggressive rides on several runners.
